JET 1 FAQ - FIXED HEAD PRINTER

I. FAQ'S – PRINTER SET UP
II. FAQ'S – PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

This section is for the person who is new to the Jet 1 and needs assistance to set up and operate the printer. For more technical information fill out the request form with your particular question or call us to find out the name of your local dealer at 800.523.0320.

I. FAQ'S – PRINTER SET UP

Q. How Do I Set the Printer Up for My Job?
A. Use the checklist below to prepare the printer for your job.

1. Turn power on by toggling the red power switch in an upward direction.

2. Turn the vacuum pump motor on by toggling the white switch in an upward direction until it lights up.

3. Set the material feeder.

4. Press the yellow jog button located on the control panel, jog the machine forward until one (1) piece of material has been fed onto the material vacuum transport belts of the ink jet base.

5. Set the width of the material guides located on the transport deck by turning the retaining knobs in a counter clockwise direction to loosen, clockwise to tighten. Adjust the material guides to center the material being run onto the vacuum belts. (Note: Arrange the guides approximately 1/16” from the top and bottom edge of the material to prevent restricting the material on the transport belt.)

6. Set up the print heads.

7. Set the material backstop of the shingle conveyor by loosening the retaining knobs located on the adjustment feet of the backstop by turning them in a counter clockwise direction. Adjust the backstop to minimize the recoil of the material when it strikes. Make sure the material settles evenly on the conveyor belts.

8. Once the material is running, adjust the speed of the ink jet base by turning the base speed control knob in a clockwise direction to increase the speed or counter clockwise to decrease the speed. (Note: set the speed to best accommodate the material and fonts being used.) NEVER RUN OVER 100%

9. Set the feeder gap by adjusting the gap control knob in a clockwise direction to shorten the gap between each piece of material as it feeds or counter clockwise to increase the gap between each piece of material as it runs. (Note: the gap control knob controls the rate of acceleration of the shingle conveyor for a sort break. Increasing the sort speed puts a greater gap between sort breaks on the conveyor. The actual sort feature is controlled by the data base software.)

10. Adjust the conveyor speed by turning the conveyor knob clockwise to increase the speed or counter clockwise to decrease the speed.

Q. What Are Controls on the Main Control Board Used for?
A. There is a combination of 9 (nine) main buttons/knobs on the main control board. From left to right they are listed below along with the function they perform:

1. Feeder, On/off button-turns on and off the feeder and cycles the feeder only during job set up.

2. Stop Button-stops all material movement on the ink jet base.

3. Jog Button-allows for slow movement of material during job set up

4. Run Button-engages the ink jet base to run at a pre-selected speed.

5. Gap Control Knob-adjust the speed of the feeder greater than the base if desired

6. Base Speed Control Knob-adjust the speed the ink jet base runs

7. Vacuum Power Switch-engages power to the vacuum pump motor

8. Conveyor Speed Knob-adjust the consistent running speed of the out feed conveyor.

9. Sort Control Knob-adjust the speed of the out feed conveyor, accelerate for a pre-sort signal.

FAQ’S - PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

The Jet 1 printer base is designed for trouble free service with a minimal amount of care and little maintenance. The base is constructed with sealed bearing and oil-less motors that require no lubrication. Depending upon the frequency of use and/or the nature of the material run, periodic cleaning of the transport belts will be necessary to keep the machine running at peak performance.

Q. How Do I Clean the Transport Belts?
A. Turn the machine power off. Using a soft cloth dampened with Isopropyl alcohol, 70% by volume or “simple green” general purpose cleaner, wipe excess ink off of the belts and drive rollers located at the discharge end of the ink jet base. Starting from the out feed side of the ink heads work your way to the discharge end of the ink jet base. (Be sure to wring out the excess cleaner to prevent dripping into the vacuum manifold or lower cabinets where computer components may be.) Advance the belts by manually pulling them towards the discharge end of the ink jet base, then repeat. Continue until the belts are clean. Now open the left front door of the ink jet base. With a dampened cloth of isopropyl alcohol or simple green wipe down the idler rollers to remove any ink or debris. Advance the rollers by hand using the belts as stated above until all of the roller surfaces are clean.
